constraints. That collaborative approach was reflected in the project’ s successful delivery and award nominations,” he explains.

Similarly, Palmers’ HS2 team was named Subcontractor of the Year, because of strong collaboration, according to Operations Director, Colin Duggan.“ Our team approached the project as part of one delivery team, not simply as a subcontractor. Open communication, early engagement and tackling issues before they became problems helped us work with the client to find practical solutions,” he says.
“ We also focused on delivering what we promised. When programme demands changed or additional access was needed, we responded flexibly without compromising safety or quality. With accessible leadership, empowered site teams and a commitment to consistent performance, we built trust through our actions.”
Today, technology is transforming how scaffolding is designed, managed and inspected, and that pace of change will only accelerate.“ Our partnership with Layher gives us access to advanced digital design tools, including LayPLAN, which enables us to model scaffolding solutions before erection begins,” Liam Duggan, Operations Director, shares.“ Combined with 3D modelling and BIM, it helps identify clashes early, improve buildability and give clients greater confidence in the proposed solution.
“ We’ ve also introduced the TempTag platform to manage the entire temporary works process, from design and approvals through to inspections, handovers and closeout. Bringing everything into one system provides greater visibility, stronger governance and clearer accountability across every project.
“ Later this year,” he continues,“ we’ ll roll out MPRAR to enhance workforce and project management, supporting onboarding, labour allocation, attendance and training while reducing reliance on paper records and disconnected systems.
“ Ultimately, our goal is to connect design, planning, workforce management and project delivery through integrated digital systems. But technology is only valuable if it improves safety, quality, productivity and client service. Skilled people will always be at the heart of scaffolding; digital tools simply give them better information and greater control.”
Modernisation and heritage are not in conflict. In fact, Palmers has remained successful for 146 years because it has always adapted and embraced change.“ However,” Paul remarks,“ while technology can improve planning, visibility and control, it cannot replace the experience and expertise of our workforce. The challenge is to preserve what makes Palmers distinctive while ensuring the business is ready for the next generation 110
