Since the early 1970s, H W Martin Group has grown from a small fencing contractor operating out of founder Harold Martin’ s home in Brinsley, Nottinghamshire, into a national group supporting the UK’ s transport and waste recycling infrastructure. What began with commercial fencing for local contractors and councils has developed over more than five decades into a diverse portfolio spanning traffic management, safety fencing, waste and recycling, vehicle engineering, fleet maintenance and more.

That growth has been driven by a combination of organic development, strategic acquisitions and a willingness to build capability around the changing needs of its customers. From its early work with the National Coal Board and subsequent expansion into highways, through to its diversification into waste management in 1999 and continued development of specialist engineering and infrastructure services, H W Martin has consistently broadened its expertise while retaining a strong focus on self-delivery.
Today, the company brings together a diverse portfolio of specialist businesses, each focused on a particular area of the UK’ s transport, infrastructure, and waste, and recycling sectors. Across nine companies and 17 operational centres, the group combines expertise in traffic management, safety fencing, fencing and forestry, waste and recycling, fleet maintenance, vehicle engineering and the manufacture of high-security fencing. Together, these businesses give H W Martin the breadth and national reach to support projects from design and construction through to ongoing maintenance.
