Competitive edge
Looking more specifically at the earthworks business , Collins divides its services into three core areas : surveying and engineering , civil engineering , and contracting . Firstly , with a strong engineering background , Collins boasts a team of office and site engineers to ensure projects are completed successfully and accurately from tender to final completion .
Each of the office and site engineering teams have specific responsibilities to ensure projects run smoothly . The office engineers , for instance , use Trimble software to create 3D models of the proposed project , applying value-engineering principles to offer a competitive edge . Geotechnical engineers can then compare solutions throughout the modelling process to not only identify the best solution for clients but also raise any potential on-site challenges .
The on-site engineering team , on the other hand , can establish ground control , set up local base stations , and undertake topographical surveys , to name just a few capabilities . Technologies like TrimbleGPS and UTS instruments help the team to ensure accuracy . Its fleet includes more than 50 machines ( bulldozers , excavators , graders , scrapers , and levellers ) which with Trimble 3D capability can be remotely connected to perform system checks and transfer
